Eleanor Roche's work as a craftsperson, brings together a range of traditional skills and finds creative ways to redeploy them, making everything from bags to sculptures. She has received recognition for her work, winning awards and participating in exhibitions throughout England and Ireland.

As a child Eleanor was inspired by her grandmother's skills as a seamstress and tailor. In 1999 she decided to join an NCAD night class in Creative Embroidery, which rekindled her interest in textiles. This was quickly followed by more workshops and finally led to her completing the Diploma in Stitched Textiles from City & Guilds.

Today Eleanor follows her grandmother's example in her working method:  each piece she produces must look well, work well and be very well finished. From very simple ingredients she creates fabrics and sculptural forms.

Eleanor is both a traditionalist and a radical. She wants to look to the past while finding new territory for textiles. She believes that it is through discovering and exploring traditional techniques that each craftsperson will find their unique voice. In 2009, with Hilary Bell, she founded Dublin Creative Textiles in order to  pass on their shared knowledge to likeminded people.
